<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>GENERALIST</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>KRAKATAU</strong></span> or to westerners, <span style="color:#ff00ff;"><strong>KRAKATOA</strong></span> is the name of an island that prior to 1883 contained 3 old volcanic cones Rakata (2700 ft) Danan approximately 1460 ft and peboewatan 400 ft. The island was about 5 miles long and 3 miles wide, between may and August in 1883 there were numerous reports of volcanic activities on Krakatoa, yet there was no serious concern.<br />
</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>The Eruption, <span style="color:#ff0000;">On August 26, 1883</span></strong> the big bang came for 19 hours the most violent explosions ever, the force of 100.000 hydrogen boms, tore Krakatoa apart. The island was invisible behind a giant wall of smoke, ash, fire and pumice, the thunder of the explotions turned into a continuous infernal roar. </em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>KRAKATOA</strong> </span>ejected matter much quiker than could be replace from the center of the Earth leaving cubic miles of empty chamber below the island. On august 27, Krakatoa ’s cones coved in, three quaters of the island, 11 square miles of surface, collapsed in to the belly of the Earth below, millions of gallons of sea water were then sucked into void.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong><span style="color:#993300;">All along the coasts of West Java and Southern Sumatera</span>,</strong> the sea receded at a speed of 12 miles per hours. Bellow the remnants of Krakatoa, the water struck millions of tons of boiling rock and magma, causing tremendous gas explotions. This triggered Eartquakes on the ocean floor that catapulated the water back inland.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong><span style="color:#993300;">The resulting killer waves reced at speeds up to 350 miles per hour and reached heights of 135 feet</span>.</strong> Giant waves crashed of towns and vilages, <span style="color:#993300;"><strong>reaching almost 10 miles inland in some places</strong></span>. Waves were felt in the 11.000 miles away, Perth, Australi to Phillipines.</em><em>English Channel, </em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>Over 36.000 people perished.</strong> </span>Debris from Krakatoa, blown 25 miles upward, travelled around the Earth several times, blaketing the whole of the Globe’s surface. The surounding area was dark for 3 days. Pressure waves from the blast circled the Earth over 7 times.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#993300;"><strong>All the remains of Krakatoa today</strong></span> is a 2.500 foot stump. <p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:#000080;"><em><strong>GENERALIST</strong></em></span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>The People of Indonesia</strong> know the Javan <span style="color:#000000;"><strong>one horned Rhinoceros</strong></span> as &#8220;<span style="color:#0000ff;"><strong>Badak Bercula Satu</strong></span>&#8220;, it is the rarest speciet of this prehistoric animals and only exists in Ujung Kulon National Park, t<span style="color:#008080;">he chances of seeing a Rhino depends greatly on the visitor&#8217;s good fortune.</span></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em>Rhino aside, Ujung Kulon National Park offers so much of Java&#8217;s natural heritage that a visit to the park should be a must to </em><span style="color:#800080;"><em><strong>everyone interested in tropical reinforest</strong>, </em></span><em><strong><span style="color:#800080;">wildlife, the underwater world of coral reefs</span> </strong>or just relaxing on Idyllic beaches.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>Ujung Kulon national Park on the western most trip of Java is a region of outstanding reinforests</strong>, the richness and variety of the vegetations and wildlife was first recognized when the two botanists, <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>Dr. Kuh</strong>l</span> and <span style="color:#ff00ff;"><strong>J. Van Hasselt</strong> </span>visited in <strong>1823 </strong>and discovered many botanical species previously unknown to science. <strong>In 1840 another botanist</strong>, <span style="color:#808000;"><strong>R. Junghuhn</strong> </span>also visited and drew attention to Ujun Kulon,</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>However in 1883</strong> <span style="color:#ff00ff;">when the volcano Krakatoa exploded it created a tidal wave that destroyed most of the lowland primary </span><span style="color:#ff00ff;">forest of Ujung Kulon</span>. Remnants of this event can still be seen in the park where fallen Lapeni trees lay partially fossilised by the volcanic dust. <strong>In 1921 Ujung Kulon was declared a nature Reserve and in 1980 was given the status of &#8220;National Park&#8221;,</strong> <span style="color:#0000ff;">now protecting an area of approximately 130.000 ha, with a great variety of ecosystems ranging from coral reefs </span><span style="color:#800080;">abundant with colourful sea life to wild</span>. Within the park there has been over 310 species of Fauna recorded. <strong>Of these the endangered One Horn Rhinoceros now totals around 47 animalss.</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em>In contrast to the rarely seen <strong>Rhino</strong>, </em><em><strong>wild cattle, <span style="color:#800080;">Rusa and barkin</span></strong><span style="color:#800080;">g </span></em><em><strong><span style="color:#800080;">deer</span> ( muncak),wild p</strong></em><em><strong> </strong></em><em><strong>igs</strong> and </em><em><strong><span style="color:#808080;">monkeys</span> </strong>are common sightings, othe primates include </em><em><span style="color:#993300;"><strong>crab eating macaques, Lemur</strong><strong>very rare leaf monkey</strong></span> and the while l<strong>eopards, fish <span style="color:#0000ff;">eating cats, </span><span style="color:#800000;">civets</span>, <span style="color:#ff00ff;">giant squirrels</span></strong> and </em><em><span style="color:#ff6600;"><strong>porcupines</strong></span> are among the wide variety of animals to be found within the forest.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em>The water of Ujung Kulon are home to </em><em><span style="color:#008000;"><strong>otters, green turtle</strong></span>s and </em><em><span style="color:#808080;"><strong>crocodiles,</strong></span> other rereptiles include reticulated </em><em><strong><span style="color:#cc99ff;">Pythons, </span>frogs</strong></em> and <em><span style="color:#993300;"><strong>large monitor lizard</strong>,</span> The feathered species are numerous. </em><em><strong><span style="color:#339966;">Hornbills, Eagles</span>, <span style="color:#339966;">Bee eaters</span>, <span style="color:#008080;">Bulbuls, Barbets, </span><span style="color:#993300;">Kingfishers</span>, <span style="color:#008000;">Pea</span> </strong>and </em><em><span style="color:#993366;"><strong>Jungle fowls, darter</strong> </span>and </em><em><span style="color:#ff00ff;"><strong>Drongos</strong> </span>are widely distributed across the park and coastal birds such as </em><em><strong>Herons, Egrets, Plovers, </strong><strong>Curlews</strong>, and thicknees are among the well over 200 bird species recorded.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>The best season for visiting</strong> the park is between <span style="color:#0000ff;"><strong>April </strong></span>and <span style="color:#0000ff;"><strong>November</strong></span> as during the rainy season from <span style="color:#ff0000;">December to March</span>, Rainfalls may reach over <span style="color:#ff0000;">4<strong>00 mm per month often accompanied by thunderstorms and Squalls</strong></span>, For visitors wishing to hike into the park for several days there are a  number of well established trails.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><strong>T<span style="color:#008080;">he most popular is the 4 days route from Taman Jaya to Peucang</span> </strong>Island via the southern coastlines, for those on a tighter timetable or budget there is <span style="color:#008000;">an easy and confortable walk through the forest from Taman Jaya to the park guardpost at </span><span style="color:#008000;">Kalejetan on the south coast then then westward hike to Karang Ranjang </span>befor returning via the forest trails and beach to Taman Jaya, camping sites are ideal at both locations, as elsewhre in the park but there are no facilities except for a number of shelters that are located around the penisula coastline.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><em><span style="color:#0000ff;"><strong>In handeulem Island</strong></span> there is a simple postguard but generaly provissions are not available in the park, <strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">All visitors require </span><span style="color:#ff0000;">a permit to enter the park</span> </strong>and are obliged to obey the regulations stated on the permit, for visitors it is necessary to hire a park guide for the duration of the trip, <span style="color:#0000ff;"><strong>Potters and cooky are needed!</strong></span></em></p>
